Democratic Participation

At IBEW Local 1245, the members have the power!

As working people standing together, we serve as the most powerful counter-balance to the corporate greed and excess that’s battered the middle class.

Our union is a democratic institution. Our members elect from among themselves the union’s Business Manager, Officers, Executive Board members, Advisory Council members and Unit Officers. The also serve as delegates and board members to central labor councils, area labor federations and other local organizing bodies.

We take civic engagement seriously. We carry our democratic values into our communities.  IBEW 1245 members regularly participate in local, regional, state and national political campaigns to help elect worker-friendly candidates to office. The union encourages members to run for office in their communities as well.

Our members play a part in bargaining for their future by submitting contract proposals, serving on bargaining committees, participating in meetings and town hall discussions, and voting by secret ballot on union-negotiated contracts.

More than 100 local unit meetings each month give each and every member a chance to participate. All local 1245 meetings are open to all members, regardless of unit or employer. View the unit meeting schedule.
