Laquania “Q” Thompson, an active leader within IBEW Local 1245, has been selected to serve as an Education Representative for the IBEW Ninth District.
Thompson began her new role in early February, stepping away from her previous role as an Operating Clerk at PG&E.
Her path to this new position is deeply rooted in the opportunities she experienced through the union. She has served as an Organizing Steward for1245 since 2015, where she encouraged fellow members to step into leadership roles and helping others recognize their own potential.
“I’m a product of the training programs,” Thompson said. “I came out of Local 1245 with the tools and the opportunities I needed to succeed, and that changed my life. Being able to give those same tools to other members so they can have those opportunities too — that’s what this role means to me. I just want everyone to win.”
Thompson’s passion for helping others succeed has been a consistent theme throughout her union involvement. She credits the Organizing Steward program with giving her leadership skills, and a deeper understanding of the labor movement, experiences she now hopes to pass on to members across the Ninth District.
“I’ll carry the values of the Organizing Steward program with me and remain a strong advocate for organizing efforts wherever I can,” she said.
Local 1245 Business Manager Bob Dean praised Thompson’s leadership and contributions. “Q has been a strong advocate for our members and for organizing,” Dean said. “She brings passion, credibility, and a deep belief in the labor movement. We are proud to see her step into this role and represent Local 1245 at the district level.”
Her selection comes as part of an expansion of the Ninth District Education Department to meet the growing training needs of more than 160,000 members across the region. In her new role, Thompson will work with local unions throughout the district to help deliver programs that support member skills, safety, and leadership development.
