Lorena Gonzalez, President of the California Federation of Labor Unions (CFLU), sent out an email to the 1,300 union affiliates to encourage their staff and members to participate in Campaign Academies as organized labor gears up for the upcoming General Election in November.
The email features a picture of IBEW 1245 Assistant Business Manager/Organizer Rene Cruz Martinez and IBEW 1245 Organizer Charlotte Stevens speaking to labor leaders from across California on how to advance internal organizing and engage members to take political action at the work place.
IBEW 1245’s Organizing Program has set a very high bar, supporting the CFLU and Central Labor Councils since its inception in 2014. IBEW 1245 Staff and Organizing Stewards serve on Central Labor Council executive boards, lead organizing trainings, mobilize support for unionizing efforts and provide tremendous support for each local election cycle from Fresno to Sacramento.
“Congratulations to Brother Cruz Martinez and Sister Stevens for representing 1245 so well,” declared IBEW 1245 Business Manager Bob Dean.
Labor has always and will continue to play a major role to advance initiatives and candidates who support working families. The Campaign Academies will train union members on how to hold conversations with co-workers at the worksite about local ballot initiatives and candidates who will advance labor’s agenda. These Get Out The Vote (GOTV) trainings will take place over a series of Saturdays at different Central Labor Councils from Los Angeles to Fresno and Sacramento.
