The Cal/Nev Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (JATC) is seeking applicants for its new Substation Technician apprenticeship program.
Substation Technicians build, maintain, operate, and repair electrical power substations, switchyards, and associated systems. Every project is complex, challenging, rewarding, and requires careful management of a skilled team of professional power workers. The construction, operation, and maintenance of substations and switchyards involves special skills and advanced technologies. In addition, workmanship must be of the highest quality, because the station and switchyard will operate unattended for 30 years or longer when the project is done.
Apprentice Substation Technicians assist journeymen in building and maintaining electrical power Substations and Switchyards. The apprenticeship program at the California-Nevada JATC combines supervised, structured on-the-job training with related classroom instruction to prepare you for skilled employment within the industry. Because you are working and learning at the same time, apprentices are considered full-time employees. Wages are paid to you during the on-the-job phase of training. Wages increase as progress is made in the program.
The JATC will be accepting applications for the Substation Tech apprenticeship program online ONLY for 10 days from January 29 through Feb. 9, 2024 (due to technical issues, the application window has been postponed by one week). Applications must be submitted online through the CalNev JATC website and will not be available until January 29, 2024.
Once the application period opens, you will need to click on the Quickbase tab, and set up a New Candidate account on our portal. You will need a valid email address to log in to Application Services and complete your online application.
The application must be completed online no later than February 9, 2024 and all required documentation MUST be uploaded with your online application. No documentation will be accepted in the office, it must be uploaded with your application.
