This morning, PG&E and the Butte County District Attorney announced that PG&E had been indicted on multiple counts of involuntary manslaughter as a result of the 2018 Camp Fire, that PG&E had entered a guilty plea to the charges, and that PG&E had agreed to the maximum penalty, which amounts to approximately $4 million. While we believe that the District Attorney would have been challenged to prove that PG&E’s maintenance of the transmission line was responsible for starting the fire, the Company decided that protracted and costly litigation was not in anybody’s best interest. The challenges created by the coming fire season and the complete disruption of the economy by the Coronavirus will require the Company’s complete attention and the decision to put the Camp Fire behind it was, in our opinion, prudent and best for all involved.
