In 2018, the IBEW 1245 Keep the Clearance peer committee set a goal to surpass close call reporting of 104 close calls reported in 2017. That effort included focusing on events and locations where tree trimmers were present and asking them to report close call incidents anonymously. Close calls are not classified as accidents since no reportable incident took place, however, the incident had the potential to cause injury to workers or damage to utility, company or customer property. A close call is a means to report incidents, note risk area trends and increase awareness to reduce incidents and injury.
