Gas Crew Confronted by Gunman- In December, a three-man PG&E gas crew working on a leak was confronted by a man carrying a gun in the city of Carmichael. The crew suspected the man was unstable when he first approached them earlier in the day but he seemed harmless and they didn’t think they needed to report him. Several hours later, the man came back with a gun fitted with a light and as the crew fled he attempted to chase them down. At one point, a crew member hid in a crew truck and called 911. While talking to the operator the gunman shined the light on the gas worker. At that point the worker told the 911 operator, “I think I’m going to get shot”. The gunman jumped from the truck and police arrived and arrested the gunman.
When the crew reported the incident to their supervisor they were asked if the job was completed. Obviously the supervisor did not comprehend the gravity of the crew’s experience. This incident was reported to Business Representatives Lloyd Cargo and Rich Lane who investigated the incident and found many inappropriate actions by the supervisor. This matter is still being addressed.
