Pinched Thumb
A journeyman lineman at MID had to get five stitches on his right hand when he got his thumb pinched between an extendable jib boom and the positioning collar. While trying to re-pin the jib to the new length the jib got bound up inside the collar and when it let go it caused the injury to the lineman.
Climber Thrown by Load
While doing reliability work last year I witnessed a foreman roping pieces out of a black oak. His climber was letting them down so they didn’t hit the home owner’s fence. The foreman took a piece way too big and the climber tried to hold on. He flew through the air 6 ft off the ground and traveled 30 ft. before he stopped. It ripped up his hands but could have been worse.
Knot Fails
A knot failed while piecing down tree lowering it with Hobbs device. Man tied on an air clove hitch sending the 15 ft. chunk down 40 ft. landing on the truck.
Finger Cut
While climbing a tree I reached down for the pruner and grabbed the hook instead of the pulley. I felt the pinch from the blade and then I dropped it. I had a small cut on my finger from the pruner.
Rolled Chipper
Going too fast on the highway with company truck and went too fast around a turn. The chipper rolled on its side. We used the boom on bucket and turned it upright. No one was injured.
