IBEW 1245 Health and Safety committee member Dan Boschee was appointed to chair the National Safety Council Labor Division Utilities committee representing unionized workers in the Manufacturing, Telecom, Television and Maritime industries. Dan is a transmission technician with Frontier Communications and has been a member of the health and safety committee for four years.
This year the NSC Labor Division met in St. Louis, Missouri and the utilities committee covered matters related to radio frequency exposure hazards to workers caused by hidden antenna arrays and excessive heat hazards for workers in Florida doing installations in building attics. In the manufacturing arena Alcoa Aluminum production plants have had many complaints related to inconsistent lockout tagout procedures and maritime companies who had initiated the use of security cameras to curtail theft have resorted to using cameras to discipline employees for other reasons.
The NSC Labor Division meets twice a year at designated locations in the Spring and Fall and members of the Local 1245 Health and Safety committee attend to keep abreast of safety changes and trends in various union represented industries. Also attending the conference with Boschee was committee member Art Torres, Business Representative Rich Lane and Senior Assistant Business Manager Ralph Armstrong. The next Labor Division meeting will be on September 11-17 in San Diego.
