IBEW 1245 members in Outside Line Construction turned out in big numbers for a special “satellite” meeting in Fresno.
Meetings are usually held at union headquarters in Vacaville so the Fresno meeting gave hands a chance to find out what’s going on without having to travel so far. Close to 40 members attended.
IBEW 1245 Executive Board member Mike Cottrell provided training in the IBEW “Code of Excellence,” the program designed to bring out the best in IBEW construction members and demonstrate to employers that IBEW members use safe work practices and perform the highest quality and quantity of work.
The meeting featured a presentation by the third party administrator of the voluntary 401k program, and also included a discussion of PG&E and inspectors not approving temporary outages to move #6 solid copper.
Many linemen reported that they were regularly visiting the IBEW 1245 website to read the monthly Outside Line report. Traffic on the website shows that many are also using the website to check their spot on the books.
Senior Assistant Business Manager Ron Cochran noted that attendance was good despite the fact that the men—many of them currently working seven days a week—were tired after a long day’s work.
“They’re a good group of line gypsies,” said Cochran.
