IBEW 1245 has conducted over 300 presentations this fall to educate members about upcoming changes in medical benefits at PG&E.
The presentations were made by cadre of IBEW members who were specially trained in August and have fanned out across the PG&E system to make sure members understand their options.
“In doing medical presentations, a lot of hurdles were thrown at us,” said Business Representative Bryan Carroll, who had the unenviable task of coordinating the educational outreach, which involved booking rooms, setting up locations, obtaining laptops and projectors, arranging time off for employees from supervisors, and coordinating attendance by the employees.
In addition to 300 scheduled meetings, Carroll said, there were countless less formal meetings “that were unscheduled, never got put on any list, just members who took it upon themselves to get it done.”
Carroll invited presenters who were present at the Advisory Council meeting to stand and be recognized.
“Some of these people have done 20-plus meetings,” Carroll said, as the members rose to warm applause.
