With municipal budgets tight, it’s been tough going at the bargaining table for public sector unions.
In IBEW 1245’s most recent negotiations with the City of Santa Clara, the employer proposed a 15% wage reduction for a year. With that stark figure as the starting point, the Local 1245 bargaining committee negotiated an agreement with no wage reductions. The agreement included 40 hours of furlough time for 2013.
The agreement was ratified 41-8 with one abstention.
Negotiating for the union were John Sanders, Dan Ryker, Chuck Hayden and David Coetzee, along with Assistant Business Manager Ray Thomas and Business Representative Bill Brill.
