Safety Steward Summit Planned

January 3, 2013

By Rich Lane

Planning for the 2013 steward safety summit will begin when all three peer committees meet in January. The safety summit in 2012 was held the week of July 10, but this year it will be in the spring.

Our hope is that attendance will be high; last year 65 stewards attended the summit. The exact dates will be announced and there will be some changes related to attendance sign up and the structure of the two day event. Like last year the summit will be an all peer group effort with the summit being organized and run by the Hold the Pull, Control the Pressure and Keep the Clearance committees.

Safety stewards will be contacted by their peer committee. Stewards will be required to commit to attending the summit by a due date in order for time off and hotel accommodations to be arranged.

Safety stewards who have moved or have new contact information should contact Rich Lane as soon as possible.

Many attendees from last year’s summit provided feedback that will be used to improve this year’s program. It is the overall purpose of the summit to make the peer initiative more effective through training and awareness, and member feedback will help us all toward that goal.

Rich Lane is a safety representative on the IBEW Local 1245 staff.
