Signed Referrals and “A” Membership Dues

Outside Construction

As a member of the Outside Line Construction group there are a couple of very important things you must do. Failure to do these things could jeopardize your employment with a contractor.

The first is to sign and return your referral to the dispatch office and the other is to maintain your monthly dues for your “A” membership.

As important as these issues are to your employment, we are constantly having issues with some of the members not taking care of this obligation. Without completing these simple responsibilities as an IBEW member, you risk being removed from the jobs for not officially accepting the terms of the dispatch, or having your membership suspended due to not maintaining it.

In addition to the risk of being removed from the job, there is another downside. When a member doesn’t maintain his/her dues the member is usually required to pay an additional re-instatement fee. If they are far enough behind that they are dropped from membership, they stand a chance of losing a retirement that is tied to that membership, or having to restart the vesting period, which happens when you have to re-initiate.

These things are very important to our members. It is the member who stands the most to lose.

On another note, all BA members are eligible to become “A” members and reap the rewards of the “Pension Benefit Plan” (PBF).  The PBF is another retirement available for your future, not to mention the prestige that comes with being an “A” ticket member.
