Big turnout for March meeting at TID
Two-third of membership attend
The March unit meeting at Turlock Irrigation District drew two-thirds of the IBEW membership, a remarkable showing in an era when there are a lot of competing demands on a union member’s time.
“This kind of turnout is a true testament to our unity, and shows the District that no matter what happens our unit stands as one,” said Unit Chair Aaron Baker.
The hot topic of the night was negotiations. Local 1245 Assistant Business Manager Ray Thomas, who serves as lead negotiator, gave a detailed update while members enjoyed pizza and soda supplied by the union.
“Many members are viewing what the District is proposing is an assault on our trade,” said Baker. This has produced keen interest in the negotiations.
“The number of people at the unit meeting would have been even higher except that emergency jobs prevented many members from attending,” said Baker
In addition to conducting regular business, the unit screened the video from the International Lineman’s Rodeo last October that is featured in the video section of the union’s website.
