Two days after Christmas, while many were still enjoying the holidays, IBEW 1245 members from the San Rafael Division were dispatched to Angel Island in San Francisco Bay to restore power following a winter storm.
Getting there was no ordinary commute. With no road access to the island, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers transported the crew and their work trucks by barge so they could begin repairing the storm damage.
The crew spent two days on the island working to restore power. During the assignment, IBEW 1245 member Matt Furuli captured a striking photo of his coworkers — Lineman Jacob Morgan and Apprentices Will Hathaway and Chris Douglas — with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background.
The image earned Furuli top honors in IBEW 1245’s fourth-quarter photo contest.
Furuli, who was working as a Lineman at the time and has since become an Electric Crew Foreman, captured more than just a beautiful view. His photo offers a glimpse into the extraordinary lengths IBEW 1245 members go to restore power, even when the job takes them across the waters of San Francisco Bay.
Congratulations to Matt Furuli on his winning photo, and to the entire crew for their hard work and dedication!
