RENO, Nev. – IBEW Local 1245 Business Manager Bob Dean is urging the union’s Nevada members to re-elect Joe Lomabardo as Governor. Governor Lombardo has repeatedly demonstrated a strong commitment to protecting utility workers and the work performed by IBEW 1245 members across the state.
“Governor Lombardo supported and signed legislation that protects 1245 members working in Nevada by enhancing criminal penalties for assaulting utility workers. That same legislation also prohibits the sale of mylar balloons, which frequently cause outages and can create serious hazards for our members once they become burned onto electrical lines and infrastructure,” stated Dean.
“Rarely has one piece of legislation done so much to create safer working conditions for our frontline utility workers, who already face significant hazards every day on the job,” Dean added.
Dean also pointed to decisive action by Governor Lombardo, including issuing a series of Executive Orders outlining “energy independence” for Nevada by increasing in-state energy supply to meet all electricity demand needs.
Governor Lombardo’s most recent Executive Order ensures protections for electric and water customers and local governments in data center development. The EO will secure responsible growth and, over time, lower electricity costs as data center developers pay full freight when constructing and operating these facilities.
“Governor Lombardo is continuing Nevada’s energy leadership by putting Nevada residents and energy workers first,” said Dean. The new projects will include generation, transmission and distribution to support much higher future electricity use. This will ensure reliable energy supply is available to all Nevadans when they need it most and will sustain continued economic growth in the State now and into the future.
Governor Lombardo’s leadership stands in stark contrast to that of his opponent, Assistant Business Manager Hunter Stern, said. “Aaron Ford is blatantly using his position as Attorney General to help his campaign and undermine public trust in Nevada’s institutions.”
Late last year, the Nevada Public Utilities Commission voted to adopt a rate design that would reduce electricity bills for most Nevadans. However, Attorney General Aaron Ford has blocked this benefit by suing the Public Utilities Commission over their decision. Since then, two separate courts have ruled against Aaron Ford and in favor of Nevada electricity customers. Despite losing, Ford continues to stand in the way of lower electric bills by appealing the decisions to the Nevada Supreme Court.
Early voting in Nevada runs October 17 through October 30. Election day is November 3. Please Vote!
