IBEW 1245 Women’s Committee Inspires Students at Northern Nevada Construction Career Day
IBEW 1245’s Women’s Committee joined forces with industry and community partners to help inspire the next generation of skilled tradesworkers at this year’s Northern Nevada Construction Ca
reer Day, held in Reno.
The annual event brings together hundreds of high school students from across the region to explore hands-on career opportunities in construction, energy, and related fields. For many students, it’s their first chance to meet tradespeople face-to-face and see what a career in the skilled trades can offer.

Representing IBEW 1245 were Women’s Committee Chair Nicole Brookes and Sandra Martinez, a Leak Survey Technician at NV Energy and proud IBEW 1245 member. Throughout the day, they spoke with students about the wide range of careers available in the electrical industry and shared their personal experiences working in the field.
“Events like this show students that these careers are open to everyone,” Brookes said. “It’s about giving them the confidence to see themselves in the trades and the 1245 Women’s Committee was proud to be a part of it.”
IBEW 1245 also partnered with Christine Hull, Executive Director of the Nevada Builders Alliance; JJ Phoenix, Director of Nevada YouthBuild; and Brittany Hunter, YouthBuild Crew Leader, who attended with her all-female Cohort 3 YouthBuild team.
From interactive demonstrations to one-on-one conversations, the day underscored a shared goal: building the future by investing in the next generation.
As the demand for skilled workers continues to rise across Nevada and beyond, the IBEW 1245 Women’s Committee remains committed to outreach, mentorship, and leadership development — ensuring that young people, especially young women, see a place for themselves in the power and construction trades.
