After nearly 5 years, IBEW 1245 and PG&E have reached agreement on reinstating barehand work for T200 transmission crews. Letter agreement 25-13 was signed on May 28th.
This agreement changes barehand procedures from being mandatory for division transmission crews to now being voluntary. It also establishes a 10% premium for crews when barehand work is being performed.
Another benefit of the agreement is the creation of 4 SMEs (Subject Matter Experts), who will build and deliver training with PG&E leadership. There is also a requirement to have at least 2 SMEs on each job site where barehanding is being used. So much barehand expertise has left the company over recent years, it was critical to create this classification for at least the pilot stage of this process.
KC Nancolas, Matt Taylor, Jared Merkle and Travis Doyle are the SMEs that have helped get us to this point and who will take us into the future. Without their passion for this work, and the dedication of Business Representative Casey Barker, this would not have become a reality.
Thanks to all.
