Sacramento – IBEW 1245 Organizing Stewards joined Staff to testify in favor of 1245’s-sponsored Utility Worker Safety bill before the California Senate’s Public Safety Committee.
IBEW 1245 Political Director Hunter Stern served as the lead for IBEW locals, while SDG&E has been leading the Investor-Owned Utilities on the bill. Like PG&E, their workers have experienced several very serious assaults, one of whom shared their testimony.
The bill – authored by newly elected Senator Jesse Arreguin, the former mayor of Berkeley – passed unanimously out of the Senate Public Safety Committee by a 6-0
vote.
Next Steps: The bill now goes to Appropriations before hitting the Senate floor.
