Eligibility: Applicants must live in the jurisdiction of IBEW Local 1245, be the first generation in their family to work in the utility industry and cannot be a current or former IBEW member. Applicants must show 1) proof of one year of Algebra; 2) a High School diploma or GED, and 3) a current valid CA or NV driver’s license with no restrictions (CDL, while not required, is preferred).
Application process: Applications are accepted from March 1 through March 31 for the fall class, and October 1 through October 31 for the spring class. Applicants will be required to submit in one email:
- Full legal name, current permanent physical address, and best contact number
- Resume
- Copy of official High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Official transcript which shows completion of one year of Algebra
- Photo of current CA or NV driver’s license with no restrictions. CDL, while not required is preferred.
- Two letters of recommendation from a non-relative instructor, principal, counselor, or supervisor, and
- A 500-word essay on a topic related to the Labor Movement and/or working in the Electric Utility Industry.

Award: Four recipients will be selected each year (two in the spring and two in the fall) to receive a one-time scholarship to attend the Northwest JATC Training Center (Volta) in Oregon. The scholarships will include full tuition, fees, tools, lodging and $50 per day for meals
