The 34th Annual IBEW 1245 Golf Tournament, now known as the North Valley Open, is one of 1245’s longest-standing traditions. Due to its growing popularity, it is now one of three golf tournaments we host for our membership across our service territory. This year’s tournament took place on September 21, 2024, at the beautiful Cypress Lakes Golf Course. The weather was perfect for a full day of fun, with 36 teams competing in a fun, scramble-format tournament.
The day kicked off with a prompt 8:40 AM tee time, and golfers hit the course with enthusiasm. While out on the course, participants were treated to complimentary drinks delivered by none other than our Business Manager, Bob Dean, who graciously took time to interact with members and take photos. In addition, golfers enjoyed a complimentary breakfast and BBQ lunch, enhancing the enjoyment of the day.
A standout feature of the event was the music played throughout the day by IBEW 1245 member Ruben Lopez, aka DJ Wavy, a PG&E Traffic Control Utility Worker in Sac Sierra Division. Participants enjoyed great music as they transitioned between holes, adding to the lively atmosphere.
The course featured four Par Three holes, each offering enticing hole-in-one prizes. Hole 14 featured a Ford F-150 truck as the prize for a hole-in-one, courtesy of Ron DuPratt Ford. Hole 8 provided two exciting challenges: Jaeger Vacuum Excavations sponsored a Harley Davidson motorcycle as the hole-in-one prize, and Backswing Golf hosted a unique fundraising challenge called “Beat the Pro.” This was the most popular activity of the day, allowing players to compete against a professional LPGA golfer in a fun closest-to-the-pin contest.
The exciting event concluded with the awards ceremony and the always-popular raffle. Congrats to the winning team, the “Vallejo Boys” — Robert Bouvier, Eddie Bouvier, Moji Earl and Lloyd Osborne — with a score of 55.

“We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all the sponsors, staff, and volunteers whose dedication made this year’s tournament possible. We are grateful for your support and contribution to the success of the event,” said IBEW 1245 Business Rep Gerald Williams, who chaired the NVO tournament. “We also want to express our sincere appreciation to all the members and golfers who persevered through a slight delay in early registration and cart assignments. Your dedication and participation are integral to the success of the event, and we are grateful for your support. Thanks to you, the tournament was a resounding success, selling out in less than three weeks after registration opened.”
Looking ahead to 2025, IBEW 1245 will again be hosting three golf tournaments throughout our service territory (Madera, Reno, and Fairfield/Sacramento). Details will be announced early next year. We look forward to another fantastic opportunity for members to come together and enjoy a day of camaraderie on the golf course.
