On May 28, 2024, Ruben Paredes and his son – a line clearance tree trimmers (LCTT) team for Davey Tree Surgery – were commuting between their home in Nipomo, CA and north San Luis Obispo for Davey Tree Surgery, when they suffered a devastating car accident. Their car was struck by an SUV. The Fire Department had to use the jaws of life to pull Ruben from the car. Ruben’s son was recently released from the hospital although he is still recovering from the collision. Ruben, himself, was recently transferred to a Hospital in Los Angeles, CA. Recovery is expected to be a very slow process.
Ruben is an active IBEW 1245 member who regularly attends Unit meetings in SLO. He is 49 years old, married and has four children ages 30, 20, 17, 13. His brother, Jose Paredes, is also a long-time IBEW 1245 member and active in the Keep the Clearance Committee (KTC) peer-to-peer safety group, Davey Tree Surgery.
