The 2024 IBEW Nor-Cal Clay Shoot broke new ground for the 10th Annual edition. This year IBEW Local 1245, with help from our sister locals, 180 and 340, put on a two-day event at Raahauges Pheasant Club in Dunnigan, CA. Expanding to a two-day event allowed well over 200 enthusiastic shooters of all ages to challenge the 17-station course.
The Saturday session will be remembered for the elements that Mother Nature delivered. The morning started in a downpour as the shooters made their way up the rolling hills of the course layout. Mid-morning brought the cold winds that increased the difficulty for even the most accurate of markspersons. Muddy boots were a handicap that everyone experienced on the hillside shooting stations.
The day’s participants were rewarded with a break in the weather that allowed everyone to knock the chill off around one of the orchard heaters before chowing down on the traditional pulled pork lunch spread. By the time the prize raffle got underway, all the rain seemed like a distant memory as lucky winners strolled up to claim their prizes.
Sunday’s shooters were greeted with sunshine and cool breezes. Blue skies were filled with the cracks of 12- and 20-gauge shots knocking clays from the sky all morning. Sunday participants counted their luck to have chosen the day which was more conducive to the weather. The event concluded with smiles, laughter, and the ongoing tradition of every youth participant receiving a raffle prize. Not to worry, some pretty cool long guns were won by the adults. Franchi and Weatherby top prizes were awarded to lucky IBEW members on both days.
The event is made possible by the hard work of the Clay Shoot organizing committee. It was a great success, despite the challenging weather on Saturday. With the support of our many sponsor partners, we look forward to the 2025 IBEW Clay Shoot, with the goal of breaking this year’s strong participation turnout.
