Thank you to all members who participated in the effort to beat back Senate Bill 284 (SB 284).
We have won a reprieve!
➢ Assembly Labor Committee Chair Ash Kalra has advised Senator Wiener that SB 284 will not be heard, and it was not heard during today’s Labor Committee hearing. However, SB 284 remains active. While it is possible SB 284 could be heard before July 14, we are confident Chair Kalra will honor his commitment.
➢ The legislature operates on a two-year session. 2023 is the first year of the session. We expect Wiener will continue to push some form of SB 284 next year.
➢ In the meantime, our leadership and staff continue to spread the word about the anti-union language of the bill in Sacramento.
➢ Anything can still happen from now and till the end of the session of 2024.
