Line clearance tree trimmers from Stockton Unit #4871 usually use their social funds to have raffles at unit meetings and purchase union swag for faithful meeting attendees. Occasionally, they’ll donate it to a needy community charity. But this year, the line clearance tree trimmers decided to use their social funds to host a much-needed Labor Day family get-together and BBQ at a local park known as Mickie’s Grove.
Under the shade of vibrant Valley oak trees, they set up the grill and enjoyed a day of relaxation and fellowship with co-workers and their families. It was a great opportunity to build a sense of friendship and brotherhood with people we see every day, but don’t always get the extra time to joke and laugh with. And Labor Day — the one day union members and all others who work so hard day in and day out, can take a day off and just relax and unwind on a day where they would normally be on the clock — seems like the perfect day.
Special thanks to IBEW 1245 for supplying us with the funding, and to the faithful attendees who make the meetings.
