IBEW 1245 retiree Tom “T” Bird was elected to serve as the next President of the Nevada Alliance for Retired Americans (NARA). Bird was nominated by Nevada AFL-CIO Executive Secretary-Treasurer Danny Thompson to succeed former NARA President Scott Watt at the most recent NARA Board meeting on December 8. His term officially begins on January 1, 2015.
“All your continued support will be my inspiration to lead us into the next phase of NARA,” Bird told the NARA Board members after being nominated, elected and sworn in. “I will need each of you and your members’ support to help lead the battle to sustain our hard-earned benefits, Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid for not only ourselves but for our children and grandchildren. We do not want to be the last generation to retire. This will not happen on our watch.”
