Solidarity makes a difference at Delta Star

July 9, 2014

Manufacturing workers and IBEW 1245 members at Delta Star  are proving that when working people stand together, they can make a difference for themselves and their fellow workers.

Break room upgrade. The 150 employees at Delta Star’s San Carlos facility have had access to just one refrigerator in their break room; it’s decades-old and quite small. The workers came together and approached their business rep, Cruz Serna, about the refrigerator issue. Serna  promptly contacted the management about it, and now the workers have a new bigger refrigerator.  “Employees were very happy,” said Serna.

Showing support for Delta Star workers everywhere. Shop Steward Danny Kutulas distributed red IBEW 1245 shirts to the members at Delta Star,  and announced “Red Shirt Thursday,” a weekly opportunity for the Local 1245 members at Delta Star to show their support for their brothers and sisters at Local 2173 in Virginia who are fighting for a new contract. The workers will continue to wear their IBEW shirts on Thursdays until their fellow Delta Star workers at the Virginia facility secure a fair agreement.
