The IBEW 1245 Executive Board and many Advisory Council members will be lending a hand at the Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano on April 25.
It appears the IBEW 1245 volunteers will mainly be sorting and bagging produce because the Food Bank has run out of canned goods.
IBEW 1245 Office Manager Tonya Alston said that any IBEW member can help remedy this situation by donating money to the Food Bank online. The Food Bank uses the money to purchase additional food, which volunteers then sort and process for distribution to those in need.
“They are desperately in need of donations,” said Alston, who has tried to publicize the need through Twitter and Facebook. She said she wants to make sure the Food Bank has “an adequate supply of food to feed children during the summer months.” She also hopes that a last-minute surge of on-line cash donations means that she and the other IBEW 1245 volunteers will be sorting not just produce but other food items as well during their volunteer mission on April 25.

Another way IBEW 1245 members can help those in need of food is to participate in the Letter Carriers’ National Stamp Out Hunger campaign on May 10. Everyone should be receiving a postcard in their mail box about this annual event. All you have to do to help is place a bag of non-perishable food by your mailbox on May 10, before your Letter Carrier arrives with the mail. The following items are greatly needed: canned meats, fish, soup, juice, vegetables, pasta, cereal, peanut butter and rice.
