Ed Hill, International President of the IBEW, is urging the NLRB to decide in favor of the United Auto Workers in the disputed union representation election at the Volkswagen auto plant in Chattanooga, TN.
The UAW wants the NLRB to set aside the results of the election, in which the union was narrowly defeated, and order a new election. The union says workers could not vote freely due to threats from Tennessee politicians that voting for the union would economically hurt the plant.
IBEW President Ed Hill says that the IBEW stands side by side with the UAW in condemning what Hill calls “the gross violation of public trust by the most powerful people in the state.”
Hill says the NLRB “must protect the right of American workers to decide for themselves how to get the wages and benefits they deserve and the respect they are due. They must not reward blackmail.”
