IBEW Local 1245 made its mark this year at the 2013 Walk to Stop Diabetes event in San Jose, CA.
Lead by Coí¢â‚¬Captains and IBEW Local 1245 members, Lorenso Arciniega and Joe Estrada Jr. For well over a year, Local Unit 1511’s “Team Believe” has been working hard to increase awareness about Diabetes and raise funds for a cure. Starting in midí¢â‚¬December 2012, the team successful completed its first event named: “Winter Wonderland Fundraising Event”. The event consisted of a social hour at a local restaurant that included a White Elephant gift exchange and fundraising raffle. This winter event reached its goal of over $1000. Throughout the year, smaller fundraiser events where held at the worksite as well.
The next major event was in August of 2013 at Sweet Tomatoes (The photo collage above is from this event). “This event was so much fun. I was able to have dinner with all my follow union members while working together against a life changing disease. I was glad our Local Unit was able to host this event,” stated Gabriel Martinez, a 12 year IBEW Local 1245 member from the PG&E San Jose Contact Center.
This event raised over $650.00. Next, the team wanted to host one more event. In September 2013 “IBEW Local 1245: Team Believe” partnered with PG&E’s Campaign for the Community initiative and was able to raise another $150.00 through Nacho Sales as a part of the local kickoff event.
On October 20, 2013, IBEW Local 1245 members participated in the San Jose, California walk that took place in Downtown San Jose. This event brings together families, companies, organizations, and communities to raise money for a cure and have a great time doing it! Walk day is a huge celebration of the efforts Participants put into this inspirational event!! After a 1 mile, 5K or 10K walk / run, our IBEW members enjoyed post event activities featuring live music, a healthy living fair, free health screenings, lunch, kids play zone, raffle prizes and more!
Our team was very successful this year in rising well over $2,600 to date. The team ranked #19 out of over 100 teams participating. Our very own Lorenso Arciniega was the #12 ranked fundraising participant out of well over 1000 participants/walkers this year.
