Former IBEW 1245 President Ed Mallory died of an apparent heart attack on Sept. 20, a day after his 74th birthday.
Brother Mallory, a PG&E Electrical Technician, was initiated into IBEW 1245 in 1966. He became a shop steward in 1977 and spent the next 27 years serving the union in a variety of roles. He served as treasurer from 1989 to 1993, and recording secretary from 1993 to 2001.
Brother Mallory became president of the union in 2001, after then-President Howard Stiefer accepted a position as Assistant Business Manager. Mallory was re-elected president in 2004, but resigned at the end of that year for health reasons.
“Ed had a talent for being both pragmatic and progressive. He brought a Kern County pragmatism to union building and everything he did on the board,” said Business Manager Tom Dalzell. “He made a great contribution to this organization.”
Mallory served as a delegate to the Kern-Inyo-Mono Counties Central Labor Council for 18 years and served on the executive board of the council for five years. He understood the importance of electoral politics in defending the rights of union members and represented IBEW 1245 for many years at political and legislative conference
