Gray hired as organizer
Jennifer Gray has been hired as an organizer for Local 1245.
Gray, who came on staff Feb. 4, brings plenty of experience to the job. She was a lead organizer in Local 1245’s campaign last year against Proposition 32, an anti-union measure that was soundly defeated. She was one of several Local 1245 members dispatched in recent years to Florida, Ohio and Wisconsin to fight anti-union campaigns there, and helped organize the union’s participation in “We Are One” rallies at several locations in California.
Gray, 30,also has contributed to the union’s new community outreach efforts. She helped develop the Sacramento Area Organizing Committee, which sponsors an annual Charity Bowl in the Sacramento area, and recently coordinated Local 1245’s participation in Earth Day activities at 10 locations in eight California counties.
You might say that union is in her blood. Her mother is a former IBEW member. So is her brother, who worked at a PG&E Call Center. Sister Gray hired onto PG&E in 2006 as a Service Rep at PG&E’s Sacramento Call Center. She has served as a steward, as unit recorder for the Sacramento Clerical unit, and on the IBEW bargaining committee at PG&E.
“I love the union. I understand the roles unions play in workers lives and families,” said Gray, “Organizing gives me an opportunity to bring more people into this movement.”
Welcome aboard, Sister Gray!
