IBEW Local 1245 was among the many unions standing with Walmart workers on Black Friday in protests and strikes against the world’s largest employer.
For about twenty-four hours, Walmart workers, union members and other activists pulled off the largest-ever US strike against the giant retailer. According to organizers, strikes hit a hundred US cities, with hundreds of retail workers walking off the job. Organizers say they also hit their goal of a thousand total protests, with all but four states holding at least one.
Local 1245 Organizer Fred Ross and his family joined an action at the Walmart in Richmond, where union members and religious allies were joined by Congressman George Miller, SEIU President Mary Kay Henry and State Senator Loni Hancock.
Walmart workers are demanding that Walmart treat its employees with respect and provide them with livable wages and benefits.
