LETTER TO CALPINE EMPLOYEES ABOUT MEETING WITH GOVERNOR BROWN
Hello all,
We had a very successful and productive day yesterday in Sacramento. We were able to meet with Gov. Brown!
He asked many questions about what we’ve been doing and about some of the issues we’ve been facing. He’s very concerned about some of the tactics being used by the company and said he would be willing to talk to some people about it.
We also met with an aide to John Perez, Speaker of the Assembly, and he committed to having Speaker Perez send a letter asking for free and fair elections.
In case some of you don’t know yet, we will be having a secret ballot election on January 25th and 26th. We wanted to have the election earlier but because of some delay tactics by the company’s lawyers we were forced to settle on those dates. Talk to me or any of the other key committee members for details.
Actually all it means is that they are afraid if we were to hold the election now we would win. So in a way it’s a victory! Their plan, I’m sure , is to have more time to send their ” consultants ” around to try to convince us that we don’t need a union. In the flyer that Mike Rogers sent to us all via e-mail he is telling us all to vote no. My question to you is, aren’t you tired of being told what to do? Encourage people to find out the facts and make an informed, intelligent decision.
We are making history here at the Geysers. This is no longer a local election. Labor organizations, elected officials and labor movements across the nation have their eyes on what we’re doing. Time and time again we are commended on our courage to stand up and be heard, including Gov. Brown! I want to thank each of you for being part of this, we will be able to look back and feel proud that we made a difference. Stand strong and stand together.
Thank you,
Mike Farmer
