Local 1245 Office Manager Tonya Alston provides this timely reminder about breast cancer awareness.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Please encourage your female family and friends to have annual mammograms and perform regular self examinations.
Early detection is key to determining the type of treatment you receive.
Your family history of breast cancer may determine the age at which annual mammograms should begin for you. Example: if your Mom was diagnosed at age 40, you should begin annual mammography screenings by age 30. Screening guidelines change, so please discuss with your physician.
Also, for your family and friends without medical coverage, Planned Parenthood Health Centers provide examinations and give referrals to free and low-cost mammography clinics.
