Chuck Farlow, an IBEW Local 1245 shop steward at NV Energy, was killed on July 19 in a car accident about 4 miles south of San Harbor.
Also killed was his life-long friend Mike Rapanaro. Chuck’s wife, Rhonda, and another friend, Lori Brown, received serious injuries.
All four were in a Ford Taurus, enjoying a day at Lake Tahoe when, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol, a green Ford 350 pickup drifted across the double yellow center line and into the northbound travel lane. It struck the rear of a tractor trailer rig, then hit the Ford Taurus in which Farlow’s party was traveling. The head-on collision forced the Taurus backward and off the roadway.
Rapanaro and Farlow were pronounced dead at the scene.
Brother Farlow, a 29-year member of IBEW Local 1245, was a Gas Customer Serviceman in Reno for NV Energy, where he hired on in 1979. He would have been 60 on Aug. 1.
A fund is being planned to assist Rhonda. Services for Chuck will be scheduled at a later date pending Rhonda’s recovery.
A website has been set up for Rhonda at www.caringbridge.org/visit/rhondafarlow. The site will carry updates on her health status. Friends and well-wishers can sign the guest book, so that she can read messages of support when she is able. Renown asks that while she is in ICU not to send fresh flowers. But plastic flowers/plants, cards, letters and balloons are welcome. And of course prayers are still very much needed for Rhonda, Lori and their families during this time.
