“Queen Meg” Whitman was caught in a photo with members of IBEW Local 1245 just prior to the first gubernatorial debate, held Sept. 28 at University of California at Davis.
It wasn’t the real Meg Whitman, of course, but a royal imposter, complete with a crown and white gloves.
Inside the hall where the debate was held, the real Meg Whitman struggled to defend her proposed tax cuts for the richest Californians, which Democratic candidate Jerry Brown said would add $5 billion to the state’s budget deficit.
Although Whitman has said her economic plan will create jobs, it’s a tough sell considering her actions in the business world. As CEO at eBay. Whitman cut 10% of her own workforce and sent 40% of eBay’s jobs overseas. She has said she will fire 40,000 public sector workers if she is elected governor.
During the rally before the debate, union members mocked Whitman’s eBay experience by holding a spoof auction to sell off California’s parks, schools and other public assets.
