Local 1245 members and retirees from NV Energy will hold a send-off rally on Saturday, March 20, for retirees who are flying to New York to protest an award being presented to the utility.
The March 20 rally will begin at 9:00 A.M. at the IBEW Local 401 Hall, East 4th & Tacchino Streets, in Reno. The rally will be followed by neighborhood walks in selected business areas of Reno and Sparks to inform business owners of NV Energy’s recent reductions in electric service.
The New York action, scheduled for March 25, will protest an award being given to NV Energy for “excellence in benefits.” Employees and retirees are incensed by the award because the company has recently acted unilaterally to slash their retirement medical benefits. Flying to New York to join the union’s allies at this rally will be Local 1245 Retiree’s Club President Ron Borst, Vice President Tom Bird, and fellow retiree, Rita Weisshaar.
The Reno send-off rally and neighborhood business canvass will conclude at 12:30 p.m. with refreshments at the IBEW hall.
