The IBEW Local 1245 Executive Board has approved funds to wage major campaigns in two areas where our members are under serious attack.
- The Board approved $50,000 for a campaign to protect pensions and retiree medical benefits for members at the City of Redding. The union believes that a ballot initiative may be introduced in 2010 attacking these benefits. The Local 1245 Executive Board, by approving funds now, has signaled the union’s intent to provide the resources necessary to fight any such ballot initiative.
- The IBEW Local 1245 Executive Board approved $500,000 for a media campaign in Nevada to protect the rights and benefits of IBEW members and retirees at NV Energy. The union still hopes that NV Energy (formerly Sierra Pacific Power) will reconsider its harsh and unnecessary take-away proposals so that a major media campaign can be avoided. But the Executive Board has signaled that if the union is forced to fight, we will fight “all-in”.
