NV Energy and IBEW Local 1245 have reached agreement on offering the Voluntary Severance Incentive Program (VSIP) to NV Energy employees represented by Local 1245.
The company’s choice to freeze or reduce budgets based on future growth projections has led to a few layoffs in Local 1245-represented positions. This, coupled with the potential for reductions of generation employees and the implementation of Meter Data Management and AMI, leads the union to believe this offering is needed and timely.
This offering will not meet the needs of every member, but for some it will fit well. The union’s staff and bargaining committee continue to work with the company to resolve other issues and to obtain a renewed Collective Bargaining Agreement.
In another development, NV Energy has announced its intentions to lay off Local 1245-represented employees in Remittance and Accounts Payable. The union is working to find placement for affected employees within the company.
These events come on the heels of another recent development, the decision by NV Energy to close three business offices in Elko, Yerington and Carson City effective Oct. 30. Twelve members are affected. Options are varied depending on location, age and years of service. Options include relocate, sever or retire.
Members are encouraged to stay informed on the latest developments by attending unit meetings, staying in touch with their shop steward, and checking the union’s website on a regular basis at www.ibew1245.com.
